Eleanor Roosevelt said, ”It takes courage to love…”

Sorry Eleanor, but I disagree.  I think it’s easy to love.

There was a time in my life when I loved him and he loved another.  Lying alone on the cold tile of our bathroom floor I wished I didn’t love.  I wondered what was wrong with me.  I wished I was her and I prayed for courage.

Many years later I can see clearly now: It’s easy to love.  It takes courage to stop loving.

As a young mom I held my babies close.  I memorized every freckle on their little noses.  I knew the origin of each bruise and scrape.  It’s 10 o’clock and I’m picking up my teens from the movie theatre.  Cell phones and bras replace the pacifiers and diapers.  I bite a nail for each minute I wait to see them safely enter my car.  Tonight, when they’re fast asleep, I’ll hold them tight again.

Everyday my children teach me: It’s easy to love.  It takes courage to let go.

I kept a journal of poems all through my life. Every now and then I would read a few to someone special, someone safe.  Blogging has opened me up to an audience of passionate, intelligent, funny and sometimes crazy women.  I read your blogs and I’m in love.  I envy the freedom you have with your words.  How can I be that funny or poetic?  I hit the “publish” button and cringe.  I read my post a dozen times and it never sounds good enough.

Blogging forces me to remember: It’s easy to love.  It takes courage to let others love you.

It's Old School DysFUNctional Friday Won't You Follow Me Day

It's Friday. This means that as of 1 pm Eastern Standard Time, I will have a 5th grader. What? Wait. I have to read that again...a 5th grader.

Moi? No really.

Oh that's scary. She's one year shy of middle school and while she thinks she may be ready, I am FAR from ready. Yes, yes, I know. I have a WHOLE summer and school year plus another WHOLE summer before she starts middle school, but that's really not very far away at all.

I mean not like it was way back when she was 3 and just started preschool. Middle school seemed centuries away when she was 3.

*sigh*
If only they stayed little.

A portion of this post is linked up with parenting By dummies Old School Photo Friday. Visit Dumb Mom for more Old School posts and link up your own!

Are you wondering who gets the bowl full of ice cream this week?

Today's BSOW is....

(drumroll please)

She's knows exactly how to end her day. She's not ashamed to admit her age. She even enjoys a baby for dinner once in awhile. She's got 3 books waiting to be published. And she is a single mom. Can we say superwoman here?

I asked Buffi if she died and was reincarnated as an animal, which animal would she like to be and why...

Buffi says:
My "A" (real) answer:  I'd come back as a mosquito.  I'd only live one day, then return as a human again.
My "B" (backup) answer:  I'd come back as an elephant.  I'd keep a mate for life and never worry about getting too fat.

Run, go check out Buffi's blog and leave her some love. Tell her what animal you'd want to come back to life as, then come back here and link up for Friday Follow Me., We can hold hands and bloghop together.

The Poetry Hour-Pants on the Ground

It's easy. All you gotta do is write a poem about ANYTHING, be it a new one or an old one, post it on your blog TODAY, and link up. Then, just take a minute to stop by someone else's poetry and leave some love. Leave me some love too.

It's a Potty Good Time

Hello son, it's time to go
Momma's gotta poop.
Run, hurry up, let's go
Or else the poop will fill the coop.

(google image)

Light on, light off
Yes, please, turn on the fan!
In and out, all about
No!! Don't use your hand!

Shower on, shower off
Flush, flush, flush
Splish Splash oh! Crash!
That brand new bar of soap is mush.

Forget about that new razor,
Your body wash is toast
Its the roll of toilet paper
Your toddler wants the most.

(google image)

Chasing after the child
To get the toilet paper back
Is definitely no fun
When the brown is in your crack.

This poem was inspired by my son's antics today while I answered Nature's Call...

Don't forget to link up with your own poem and check some others out.

Not Me Monday

I'm NOT hooking up with the rest of my favorite bloggers for a Monday meme today. I always have something to talk about, and I never wait until the last minute to put it together.

I'm NOT proud of Jellybean's performance in her very first dance recital.

I did NOT pig out on 3 bags of Doritos and 1/4 gallon of ice cream this weekend. I have more self-control then that, even when Aunt Flo rears her ugly head.

I did NOT get excited when my brother announced his engagement. Nope, not me. That must have been his other sister.*

I did NOT let go of Scooby during his swim lesson so he could try swimming on his own. I am NOT that kind of mother.

I also did NOT almost fall and bust my butt trying to get him off the waterslide, because my child does NOT behave like that. Nope, not MY child. He's the good example mothers everywhere point out to their children in the grocery store.

I did NOT teach my son to smash a bug then say "Dead Bug" to the tune of "The Pink Panther". Nope, not me. His sister must have taught him that one. Yeah, that's it.

I am NOT the creative genius behind my friend's cool design blog name. I don't have a creative bone in my body.

I did NOT tell 6 truths and 1 lie during my blog party last week. What kind of blogger do you think I am?!?

I did NOT receive an award from Jess Raquel "Mo Shiorgha" last week. I am also NOT thanking her for it.

I am Not passing it on to these bloggers:

---Tree at Mother of Pearl It Is.
---Jackie at Lumps on a Blog.

Make sure you stop in at the Not Me Monday headquarters over at Mckmama's and see what everyone else is NOT doing this week.
