The Journey

When you are a child, you think the whole world is about you. You never really grasp the concept that it is so much bigger and larger and that it is possible that whatever problems you are having in your life, most especially with family, are probably affecting others in your life on a much larger scale as well. Especially if its abuse of some kind.

And when the realization of it hits you, a whole new kind of pain comes crashing down.

This pain can threaten to crush you in ways you never thought possible after all you have survived. This pain can make you question everything you believe. Everything you love. Just everything in general.

And so you begin searching. Searching for answers that you don't even know if you really want. Searching for peace you aren't sure you will ever find. Searching for a giant band-aid to help hold it all together until its healed enough to take off.

I have realized that my journey, though I have overcome so much already, is only just beginning. I look at the terrain in front of me, all the rocks and mountains in the landscape. I look behind me at the road I've already traveled, the mountains I've already climbed, and the scratches all over my arms and legs from the sharp rocks I've encountered there, the bruises scattered across my heart from the falls along the way. I look around me and see the soft valley with its green grass, and the promise of rebirth. I look ahead again, and I say "I don't want to leave."

I'd almost rather live thinking it was only me, then deal with the reality that it was so much MORE than me...

BSOW: The Drama Mama Shares

BWS tips button

Today I get to share my ice cream again. Oh how I love to share my ice cream. It really does make the day brighter, seem to move faster, and the company is always fabulous.

Today, I have a very special lady. She is a single mother to two teenagers. I have a pre-teen, and I'm terrified of the teen years, but this lady seems to be taking it all in stride. She's got a loud voice in protecting her children (and yours) from the evils of bullying. She's informed in tackling the horrors of teenage depression. She shares her deepest darkest secret. She understands the importance of good role models. She even dares you to make a difference in 2011. She's got a list of teen trends she's discussed on her sidebar.

Please welcome Laura of Ziggy's Blog!

This week I asked her 5 questions in a little interview.

When did you start blogging and why?I started blogging in January 2009.  I'm not sure why I started blogging, except that I started using twitter & every "mom" I followed had a blog, and I was so taken in with everything that I decided I wanted a blog. So I started with a design on blogger.  After I wrote 3 posts, I was like "what am I going to blog about".  I mean, I go to work & school (not very exciting).  Anyway, after talking to my daughter,  who was a "troubled teen" from 14-16, I decided to take my blog in that direction, blogging on dangerous teen trends & other teen topics, with some less serious posts.

What is your biggest pet peeve?I'll have to get back to you on that one. I'm sure I have one though.

Describe yourself in 30 seconds. In 30 seconds...I'm very laid back, quiet, unless I know you then I could talk all night. 30 are seconds up.

If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would it be? If I could change anything about my personal appearance, it would have to be my post-pregnancy belly that just will not disappear (well it might if I put more effort into exercise, but who has the time).

What has been your hardest struggle as a single parent?
At first thought, I would say the hardest thing is probably financial, but even married couples have financial problems.  I would have to say the hardest part of being a single parent is having to make those tough decisions by myself.  When my daughter was cutting, doing drugs, running away, I had to decide "do I put her on house arrest" (which I did) or "put her in treatment" (which I also did) & I couldn't discuss it with her father (long story), so making decisions that would affect my daughter either in a positive way or negative way was really tough.  Of course, she's now in college, working & doing great, so life as a single parent has gotten easier.

Isn't she fantastic? Run on over and show her a bunch of love. She'll be back on Monday with a Valentine's post to rock your socks off.

A Drama Mama Moment

If you give a mom a moment...

...you might notice the bags under her eyes. She'll explain that it started with the conception of the first child and she never managed to catch it up even though her last is off to college.

...you might notice that her hands are never empty. She'll explain that it's okay, she doesn't mind, her heart is just as full.

...you might notice that worried glint hiding in her eyes. She'll explain that letting her heart walk around outside her body is her hardest adventure yet.

...you might notice that her hair is a little messy, her clothes a little frumpy, and she doesn't always look her best. She'll explain that there is plenty of time for beauty later because right now she's too busy enjoying each moment with her kids.

...you might notice that she closes her eyes a little, while around her the children play. She'll explain to you how a 5 minute catnap can give such a needed boost after being up all night with little Johnny and that darned disappearing tooth.

...you might get a sight of that little smirk she knows she ought to hide. She'll explain that sometimes it's hard not to laugh even though you know you shouldn't.

If you give a mom a moment, you will catch a smile and hear an accomplishment or two. She wouldn't be a mom if she didn't.

If someone gave you a mommy moment, what would you say?

Here's a sample of some of the stuff I've been working on. For a full view, just run on over to my design blog, Genie Girl Graphics...
